Woman Stopped Shaving Her Mustache And Unibrow And Says It’s Made Her Life Easier

Men and women grow body and facial hair even if it’s less apparent for some people than others. From around the age of 13-14, one woman from Copenhagen, Denmark had tried to keep up with other girls and their appearance. Eldina Jaganjac had to keep up with plucking and shaving her facial hair for many years before she decided to take matters into her own hands.

It was in March 2020 that she decided she didn’t want to spend the time or stress worrying about her face and body hair anymore. Before making this personal decision, Jaganjac found herself frustrated with the lack of resources for women’s facial and body hair. She found that women were supposed to spend a considerably greater amount of time maintaining their looks than men.

After deciding to let her facial hair grow in, Jaganac experienced both kind and unkind stares and looks when in public. She has experienced many men outwardly commenting on her appearance even though she never asked them for their opinions. The woman said that men have commented on her eyebrows, mustache and even her arm hair. Even though she loves her confident lifestyle, she also understands why women remove their hair.

Jaganjac also admitted that the choices she has made with her body and facial hair are not for anyone but herself, contrary to what the media may believe. Her choice is not made to offend or please men, but rather to make her life better and easier for herself. Even though Jaganjac doesn’t shave, she doesn’t think it is bad or good either way — it’s up to the woman herself.

In an interview with Tyla Magazine, Jaganjac shared that she used to feel insecure about her facial hair when she was growing up. “I used to feel less feminine because of my rather voluminous eyebrows. Growing up, I noticed that I was considered a brute when my body hair first started to grow as a teenager,” she shared.

She also said that she noticed the pressure for girls to maintain body hair removal at a very young age. “I noticed most girls around me panicking around the age of thirteen to fourteen and starting to shave and pluck anything pluckable because they wanted to be accepted as female and tried to fit into their new role as a young woman,” she remembered.

Before she decided to own her body and facial hair in 2020, the woman said that she felt there were limited options for women compared to men. “Before I let my unibrow grow out, I did feel like there were extremely limited options to how women were supposed to look,” Jaganjac said. She went on to say, “Compared to men, we are expected to spend much more time and money on our looks just to be deemed visually acceptable in society, especially when you are in public spaces.”

The confident woman said no one comments on men’s facial or body hair. “If a man doesn’t shave and doesn’t pluck his eyebrows, no one notices or comments and it’s nothing out of the ordinary,” she said.

Jaganjac said she doesn’t care what the outside world thinks of her appearance. “I don’t care what people think. I don’t want it to become this big thing — no pun intended — but it’s a personal choice for everyone to make themselves, and I wish that people wouldn’t care no matter how a woman chooses to look,” she shared.
