Snoop Dogg’s daughter, Cori Broadus, is a successful entrepreneur in the beauty industry, running Choc Factory by Choc.
Cori is also a singer who goes by the name Choc. She has faced challenges such as bullying due to her weight and recently revealed having a severe stroke at 24.
Cori has also battled lupus, an autoimmune disease, since she was six. She now advocates body positivity, shares her mental health journey, and hopes she’ll be okay mentally and physically.
Cori Broadus is the only daughter of rapper and actor Snoop Dogg and his wife, Shante Taylor Broadus. Cori was born on June 22, 1999, and is an entrepreneur charting her path in the beauty industry.
Together with her parents and her business partner, Wayne Deuce, Cori runs a line of makeup, Choc Factory by Choc. The line of makeup is popular because of its diverse color palette that caters to the needs of ladies with rich dark skin tones.
Cori explained that the makeup line’s name originated from how her dad used to call her “Choc” when she was a little girl, a name he attributed to her being sweet and chocolate-colored. “And that is what I put in my products that are handmade and filled with love and a touch of sweetness,” she elaborated.
Cori’s cosmetics company also specializes in personal care items such as body oils and loungewear. The company’s website proclaims, “Everyone’s beautiful, and we make that evident,” alongside a list of their products, such as hoodies, leggings, and bras.
Aside from her business, Cori has followed in her father’s footsteps and is a singer. She performs under the stage name Choc and has a YouTube account under the same name. Her song “With You,” which was released three years ago, has 175,000 views.
While she has known success in her business and career, Cori has also faced challenges in life, including illness and bullying. The successful entrepreneur recently revealed that she suffered a stroke at 24.
She shared on her Instagram stories on January 18, 2024, that she broke down and cried when she was told that she “had a severe stroke.” “Like, I’m only 24; what did I do in my past life to deserve all of this,” she lamented.
Master P’s daughter, Itali Miller, shared pictures of Cori in a hospital bed on her Instagram stories and urged people to pray for the singer’s speedy recovery and send her all their love.
Cori also hasn’t had an easy time on the social media streets. Trolls have criticized her appearance and left harsh comments about the reason why her boyfriend, Wayne Deuce, is dating her. People online said Wayne was only dating Cori because of who her father is. They didn’t believe Wayne found Cori attractive, pointing out her weight, which they argued made her less beautiful.
The singer decided to respond to trolls, and her comments went viral. She said the people with vile comments were miserable and hateful and that she was praying for them because their behavior was a sickness. She added that because she was human, their comments hurt her.
Cori explained that she was more than Snoop’s daughter; she was her own person and hated that she had to deal with this trolling since she was in high school and when she started dating. The entrepreneur also revealed that being in the public eye, she had been bullied about her weight for a long time, which has affected her ever since she was a little girl.
She told Essence, “I thought it was necessary to respond because, for one, I’m cancer, and I wear feelings on my sleeves, so whenever I feel like something should be said, I get it out.” Cori explained that she grew up with people bullying her without caring who her dad was. This, she said, led to her losing her confidence.
When she was younger, Cori didn’t do anything about the comments, but when she grew older, the comments began to hit harder at her. She felt enough was enough. “I am a real person, and my feelings do count,” she noted.
Cori also said she loves being as genuine as possible, so on social media, she doesn’t always post pictures of herself with full makeup on. She is comfortable rocking her straight-back braids in the pool. The singer, who only does glitz and glamour occasionally, divulged, “I’m not going to wear makeup daily. I feel like that’s very unrealistic, and that’s not my personality.”
As much as Cori responded to trolls at the time, she encouraged people not to give every comment a response as misery loves company, and she refuses to sit at such a table. Generally, Cori now responds to cyberbullying with love and positivity as she goes about her entrepreneurship and music.
As a body positivity advocate, she encourages young women to accept and love their bodies regardless of age and other features, as there is no perfect body. “What some may see as flaws, some will see as beautiful traits,” she noted.
Cori has had to deal with bullying on social media even as she battles a chronic immune-system-related illness, lupus, which has no cure. The autoimmune disease can harm any organ in the body because it mistakes healthy tissues for foreign invaders and attacks them rather than focusing on bacteria and viruses. Lupus can cause inflammation of the heart, lungs, kidneys, and skin.
Before Cori was diagnosed with lupus, her parents didn’t know what was happening to their daughter as a light spot developed on her face, she lost weight, and her hair began falling. Doctors failed to diagnose her with an illness even after countless visits to the hospital. Snoop described his feelings while fighting tears, “I felt helpless. No power, no friends.”
Shante also recalled that no one could tell her what was wrong. Doctors drew lots of blood from Cori and said she had old-person cells. They gave her different types of medication, but she kept deteriorating. Eventually, at six years old, Cori was diagnosed with lupus.
The singer’s hair began falling off, and her mom would put a scarf on her head. The whole family began wearing scarves so Cori would feel less alone. This step motivated Shante to create the Broadus Collection scarf line, whose scarves have bright colors and upbeat patterns and textiles. This scarf line is also positive and a reflection of Cori battling lupus.
Lupus affected Cori’s mental health, and in 2021, she had a suicide attempt. In an Instagram post, she explained that her mental health had not been so great that she attempted to end her life, but her family and fans gave her purpose and made her realize there was more to life than materialistic things. So, she decided to push on.
Cori began taking a more holistic approach to her health. She had been taking medication since she was six years old, including 10 to 12 pills a day, and she wanted better for herself. So, she adopted fitness and natural remedies and stopped taking her medications. She started working out, drinking lots of water, and taking herbs, sea moss, and tea, and her body was getting used to the new program.
Snoop Dogg is happy about how well Cori is doing. He said in the beginning, lupus was winning, but now Cori is. The rapper called his daughter “the toughest little thing I have ever met.” Cori went on to live her life, play volleyball and softball, and have so much joy.
Today, Cori Broadus has days when she is sick but still blessed and able to do what she loves and tell her story. However, on other days, she wishes she wasn’t ill and was just an ordinary girl.
The singer understands that her feelings are part of being human. “You’re going to have bad days, you’re not going to always have good days,” she acknowledged. The singer, who wants to be okay mentally and physically, knows one day she’ll get there.
