Dalyce Curry, a 95-year-old retired actress known for her role in the 1980 film The Blues Brothers, tragically lost her life after becoming trapped in her Altadena home during the devastating Eaton Fire.

Affectionately referred to as “Momma D” by her loved ones, Curry’s remains were discovered by first responders amid the rubble of her residence, which was reduced to ashes by the wildfire. Her great-granddaughter, Dalyce Kelley, confirmed the heartbreaking news on Facebook, sharing footage of the devastation, including a scorched Cadillac and the remnants of the home.

Kelley recounted that she had last seen her great-grandmother after bringing her home from the hospital shortly before the fire erupted. Unaware of the imminent danger, Kelley was unable to return to the area due to police restrictions. The Eaton Fire is one of several wildfires wreaking havoc in the Los Angeles area, igniting fresh outrage over politicians’ handling of wildfire prevention.

Curry’s passing adds to the growing list of fatalities resulting from the Los Angeles wildfires, which have claimed at least 24 lives and destroyed over 12,000 homes, businesses, and vehicles. The economic cost of the disaster is estimated to be between $250 billion and $275 billion.

Authorities continue to investigate the causes of the fires, with several individuals arrested on charges including arson and looting. The community mourns the loss of Curry, remembering her contributions to the entertainment industry and the indelible mark she left on those who knew her.
