Jayne Fincher, a renowned royal photographer who captured many iconic images of Princess Diana, followed the royal couple closely on their engagements. To cover their visit to the Outer Hebrides, she even rented a jet to ensure she wouldn’t miss a moment.
“When I finally caught up,” Fincher recalls, “Charles asked me, ‘Where have you been?’”
Known for its harsh weather, the Outer Hebrides didn’t spare Diana from its wind and rain during her 1985 visit. Despite the challenging conditions, Diana looked stunning in the photos from the trip. As Fincher reviewed the negatives, she noticed something intriguing about the images.
“You rarely see Diana dressed like that. She looked so joyful,” Fincher remarked. “It was pouring rain, yet her makeup was flawless and untouched. Meanwhile, I looked like a mess, as always.”
The image below captures a moment from Diana’s final summer. She is pictured with her boyfriend, Dodi Al Fayed, aboard a boat in St. Tropez, France, as she leaps into the water.
Diana will always be remembered as a compassionate and remarkable individual.
