The Florida Panthers have finally won their first-ever Stanley Cup, and on Sunday, it was, therefore, time for their first-ever Stanley Cup parade.
But the turnout wasn’t one for the history books.
Other teams’ fans ridiculed the Panthers’ parade all day long, and on social media, fans were quick to point out just how few fans were in attendance.
But in the Panthers’ defense, there were reports of dangerous lightning storms and heavy rain, which kept many people inside.
At one point, Panthers reporter George Richardson even suggested the entire thing should be shut down, saying,’ This s—t is not safe.’
But although the weather wasn’t perfect, it didn’t stop Matthew Tkachuk from having a great time.
Players and fans celebrated along the streets, and at one point, the players and coaches took the stage to speak to those in attendance.
The perhaps highlight of the parade — except from when Paul Maurice revealed his custom-made T-shirt with his two cats on it — came from Matthew Tkachuk.
Tkachuk had a great season and was a key factor in the Panthers going all the way.
In his first interview after winning the Cup, still on the ice and before the Cup even was brought out, he hilariously trolled the Oilers, saying, ’Shoutout to my fans in Calgary, you know I couldn’t let Edmonton win.’
During the parade, Tkachuk, to no one’s surprise, was at it again. When he took the mic, he yet again took a tough shot at Edmonton.
”Aye, I heard it’s 70 degrees and sunny in Edmonton … but they ain’t got no cup!” Tkachuk said.
