In a recent statement, William Shatner, 92, admits he does not have long to live.

William Shatner has stated that he is aware he doesn’t have “much to live” and has recognized that his “time has limited,” according to new reports.

The Star Trek actor has had a remarkable career in the entertainment sector, becoming a household figure after securing the role of Captain James T. Kirk in 1966.

He played that character several times until his final appearance in the Star Trek franchise in 1994 when he became a confirmed icon.

Shatner has lately been involved in creating You Can Call Me William, a documentary about his life. After acknowledging that he’d gotten numerous proposals to make a documentary over the years, he confessed that his motivation for doing one now is directly related to his death.

“I’ve turned down many requests to make documentaries in the past,” he told Variety. But I don’t have much time left.

“Whether I keel over while I’m speaking to you or 10 years from now, my time is limited, so that’s very much a concern. I have grandchildren. This documentary is a method for me to communicate when I die.”

The 91-year-old spoke openly and honestly about the likelihood of death.

“There was a period when actors, including myself, would represent death by falling to the ground, your eyes flickering, you are slumping around, and suddenly you’re dead,” he explained.

“That’s not the way you die. This is how you pass away. [Shatner’s eyes widen as his breath comes to a halt]. See? I’m no longer alive. Have you ever had to put a dog down? When I have to put a dog down at the vet, I cup his head and say, ‘I’m with you, baby, I’m with you.’ And then the injection happens, and the dog looks at me with love, and that’s the end of it. You have no idea they’re no longer alive.

“That’s how you go out. It’s jarring. My wife’s brother entered the bedroom from the living room. A thud was heard. When his wife walked in, he was dead. Death comes to every one of us anew.”

The film on Shatner’s life, directed by Alexandre O. Philippe, will premiere at the forthcoming SXSW Film Festival in Texas.

In 2014, the iconic actor also discussed the importance of his grandchildren. “Becoming a grandparent is my greatest joy,” he told The Guardian. I now have the time to pick up a grandchild and talk to them, embrace and kiss them, and make sure I’m spending time with them and sharing some of what I’ve learned.

“Family life is completely consuming. Every weekend, I visit my daughters. And we travel on vacation together, doing everything from skiing to snorkeling.”

Shatner made waves in 2021 when he boarded a Blue Origin sub-orbital capsule to be launched into space. As a result, he became the oldest person to fly in space.

Whatever your feelings about William Shatner, no one can disagree that he is a terrific actor who has lived an incredible life.
