Emmy Russell’s time on American Idol may have come to a close. But that doesn’t mean she’s giving up on her dreams.
The 25-year-old singer and songwriter made an indelible mark on the music world when she dazzled the judges and fans during her run on the iconic competition series. From her audition with her original song, Skinny, to her final performance of Carried Me With You by Brandi Carlile, she showcased raw talent and impressive growth in only nine episodes.
Emmy narrowly missed advancing to Season 22’s finale after she and Triston Harper were voted out of the Top 5, which could have been a devastating hit to her career. But in an Instagram video, she explained that she’s feeling optimistic and ready to move forward.
Emmy Russell Is Continuing Her “Climb”
Emmy Russell was all smiles as she explained that she’s “feeling grateful” despite not making the Top 3 because it’s all “part of God’s plan.”
“You know, it’s funny because before I got eliminated, I really felt in my head that God told me… He was like, ‘Emmy, you’re not going to be chosen by America, but I chose you.’”
The singer admitted that the experience didn’t make her feel rejected or defeated. Instead, it empowered her to find her true place in the music world. Then, she went on to explain how every roadblock or heartache can be a blessing in disguise.
“It’s like, whenever a boy is like, ‘I don’t wanna go out with you anymore.’ And you’re like, ‘Okay, but I know I’m loved.’”
“The point of being here is, you can be yourself and be successful,” she continued. “Don’t run from rejection or pain and facing hard things.”
Emmy Russell went on to quote Miley Cyrus’ The Climb saying, “Sometimes you’re going to have to lose.”
Emmy linked her personal “climb” to finding “Abraham’s promised land.” She knows her dreams will come true in the future. And she hopes her fans understand that the paths to their dreams may be rocky and heartbreaking, too. But if they keep pushing through, they’ll find their happy endings.
